graphic     When you confirm a job, the first thing you see is a dialogue screen, to get more information about the job.

The system requires a little information at this stage before continuing:

Required by date:  This is the date by which the job is required.  It will be used to construct a schedule.  If you click on the icon at the end of the entry box you get a calendar to help you.

Job reference:   You may have already entered this when you created the estimate in the first place.  It is an optional field for your own use. You might use it for a General Ledger code, or other internal purposes.  It does not have to be unique for each estimate.

Purchase order reference:  This is the customer's order number. Storing it may help you locate the job, for instance when the customer telephones you.

Tax code:  Here you choose the tax code letter for the tax to be applied to the job (as set up in the Local data pane of System configuration).   If you feel that a job has different components for which the tax requirements are different then you should split the job into one or more different jobs.  In practice in most jurisdictions, provided you supply the finished item as a single product with a single price, a single tax code will suffice.

Prints required: Here you specify which forms you require to be produced.  A jobsheet (sometimes called a job bag) can be printed, as can a note to the customer to confirm the transaction.

On pressing OK, several different things happen automatically.
·     the status of the job is changed to 'confirmed', so it now becomes a 'live' job.
·     The 'next' job number is assigned to it. You can change the sequence for this in the System numbers pane of System Configuration.
·     From now on you will be warned if you try to change the price!
·     Any purchase orders or stock reservations will be activated and added to the commitals tab
·     From now on any changes you make to the calculation won't affect purchase orders or stock reservations which have to be maintained through the commitals tab.
