Understanding Printpak's Purchase Order & Stock Control

Purchase orders in Printpak are of two distinct types: - Ad Hoc and Stock
Ad Hoc orders are one-off purchases for anything required in production or delivery of a job. They can be specified for any task in the estimate calculation.
Stock orders are purchase orders raised specifically to replace or supply controlled stock items used (or to be used)  in a job.
Stock usage can be explicitly reserved by simply specifying a controlled stock paper or board in an estimate.
At confirmation,  all associated purchase orders and stock reservations are activated and placed in the committals tab of the job desktop.  This tab simply itemizes those requirements, and allows the user to adjust, create  or delete them, and in the case of purchase orders, approve them for printing.   Note that you can only adjust a stock reservation in this way if the stock item has not yet been issued.

Even though you may use the automatic purchase order facilities of PrintSum, you may not want to establish a full stock control system. You can actually run stock control for as many or as few items as you wish in PrintSum.  It is a very disciplined printing company that can run a full stock control system efficiently.
Finally you should also be aware that you can actually run job costing without stock control or purchase order processing.  For stocks the system will simply assume the default price for each item, and purchase order details can be entered directly into the job costing program.
